In addition to running Challenge Ranch since 1999 and their many other
activities, Jane and Ron Tomczak formed Challenge Ranch, Inc. in July,
2004. This non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation is dedicated to providing
recreation with support, encouragement and inspiration for under-privileged
children in San Diego County. This non-profit program has garnered media
attention including features in the Union Tribune, San Diego Magazine, and
Endurance Rider Magazine. In addition, it has earned great praise and
respect and won several local awards including the Channel 10 News
Leadership Award and the Wells Fargo Non-Profit of the month. Jane and
Ron have carefully integrated Challenge Ranch, Inc. into their already
successful family of classes and instruction.

Unlike other children's
activities riding offers the
added benefits of
relationship, respect, and
inter-dependence with an
animal. Through the
non-profit program, Jane
and Ron Tomczak aim to
give children and
teenagers a sense of
value, broaden their ideas
of what is possible,
raising their confidence
and self-esteem; therefore
guiding them to a
successful future.

"It can be very empowering for anyone who has low self-esteem and no self confidence to gain mastery over something that weighs more than 1000 lbs. To get the horse to go over the obstacle, one has to identify the problem or situation, approach it straight on and have positive expectations. Just like in real life, you can't focus on the problem and let it control you." - Lynn Thomas - Licensed Social Worker / Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Assoc. Horse People are Stable People
