Dear Visitor,
As this year ends and Christmas approaches, we are thinking about the hopes and dreams
our young riders have for 2009. All instruction, care of the horses and maintenance of the
property are undertaken with no charge.
At Challenge Ranch, our twenty-eight horses work year round with their young riders. An old
horse may give a boy his first experience of love and trust. Perhaps for the first time this boy
has empathy for another living thing and someone to confide his deepest and darkest thoughts
- a horse that just wants to stand by him and listen.
Another pony may offer a little girl her greatest sense of purpose and achievement. A little girl
who has been so battered by life she feels she is of no worth - realises she is loved by and is a
leader to that pony.
A little quarterhorse creates an understanding with a teenager. To the loud, brash, super cool
kid - he walks off, swishing. But when that same teenager treats him calmly and respectively -
he will follow anywhere. The teenager realises the world, as well as this horse, would rather
be treated kindly.
Another teenager, who has just lost her family, feels utter hopelessness. Each day a
handsome thoroughbred waits for her and she lavishes him with love, conversation and
attention. Together they form a team, each caring for the other and a new sense of purpose
and worth is born.
The young people at Challenge Ranch are welcome year round (Tues - Sun daylight hours).
Each rider receives riding instruction, Equine Assisted Learning, general horsemanship
lessons, help with the care of the horses and saddlery and gets involved in all the fun and
friendship at Challenge Ranch.
Can you help us continue to operate Challenge Ranch? Can you sponsor one of our horses or
make a donation. Can you help change a life? Your gift is tax deductible. You will be sent a tax
deduction certificate.
Each horse cost approx. $200 to feed each month. Each horse either needs a set of shoes
($90) or a trim ($25) every six to eight weeks. Routine veterinary cost average $150 per horse
per year. Electricity, trash disposal, insurance cost, etc...
We welcome visitors at any time.
The horses and the young people really appreciate your love and interest in Challenge Ranch.
Help us make a lasting difference in the life of a child.
